Javelina

The common name, Collared Pecoary, is a gregarious pig-like animal approximately 40 pounds in weight with poor eyesight and a keen sense of hearing and smell. These porkers are found in small heards from 5 to 20 animals throughout units covered by D.C. Outfitters.

Javelina are hunted by archery, rifle or HAM (handgun archery muzzleloader). Due to their size, spotting them is the most difficult part then spot and stalk techniques are used. Archery hunts coincide with archery deer hunts.

Permits are applied for in October. Hunts cost $400 per day with a three day minimum. All hunts are one-on-one and fully outfitted. Two-on-one hunts for $300 per day per person are also available.
