Deer: Coues Whitetail
Arizona's "Grey Ghost", the coues deer, is one of the smallest deer species of the whitetail deer. This small, elusive deer is one of the most popular deer to hunt and one of the most challenging of the deer species. One of our hunter this year agreed, "Conditions for coues deer are similar to sheep hunting." Hunters should be physically fit.
The country these deer inhabit is some of the most beautiful, rugged country in the United States. They are found from the desert floor to over 8,000 feet.
Hunts begin in October, November and December (during the rut). Tags are allocated by drawing with December the most popular time to hunt.
Hunting techniques require hiking or climbing to a vantage point and spending hours glassing through high power binoculars on tripods. Once a buck is spotted and evaluated, a stalk is planned to get within shooting range which can be over 500 yards, but expect shots to be 350 yards or less.
We offer hunts in units 27, 28, 31 and 32. Hunts cost $2,200 for four days. October hunts are four days and cost $2,000. Additional days can be arranged for additional fees. All hunts are one-on-one with discount for two-on-one if desired.
